A Day on the Metro
Have you ever taken a family day trip on the Metro? Did you even know there was a subway and train system that could get you around LA? I have found the LA Metro somewhat daunting because I am not a Los Angeles native, so here is a breakdown of the Rail system and some family friendly places near the Metro stops.
What are the Rail Lines?
From Downtown Union Station, North on Vermont, East to North Hollywood.
The Orange Line picks up where the Red Line ends in North Hollwood and continues due west in the San Fernando Valley until Warner Ctr.
Union Station West to Wilshire and Western.
Starts at 7th and Metro Ctr and heads South to Long Beach.
Sierra Madre Villa in Pasadena, East through Highland Park, South through Chinatown and into Union Station, Southwest through East LA.
El Monte West through Union Station then South to the Artesis Transit Ctr.
Norwalk West to LAX then South to Redondo Beach.
What is the Schedule?
For all schedule information, you have the option of using the Metro's Trip Planner or viewing each Rail Lines schedules individually.
Family Destinations
There are many family-friendly destinations throughout the city that are accessible from the Metro Rail with just a short walk. Additionally, for big events happening in the city, the rail system offers an alternative to finding parking and fighting the crowds. We made a family trip on the Metro Rail Gold Line to the Chinese New Year parade in Chinatown, which was fun and saved us from a major parking headache!
