Green Your Halloween
In the past few weeks, costume shops have started to pop up around town, signs for pumpkin patches have appeared and theme parks have started to advertise their spooky makeovers. While LA has been balmy and not the typical crisp fall we'd expect, it is time to start working on Halloween plans.
This week, Lulubel would like to offer some options to Green Your Halloween and to showcase some of the family Halloween events that are starting around town. As always, check out our EVENTS section for the most up-to-date Halloween events and stay-tuned next week for more Halloween fun!
Boos and Ahs of Halloween
When your kids show up for the costume parade or the fairies and dragons show up on your doorstep, you'll get Boos and Ahs for adding a touch of Eco in your Hallow's Eve with these easy tips!
Costume Makeup
Beware of costume make-up purchased for cheap in the Halloween stores. Last year out of the 10 costume make-ups tested, all were found to have traceable amounts of lead. Check out Elegant Minerals for a non-toxic alternative or the All Natural Rainbow Face Paint kit by Luna Organics.
Decorations
Kids love to spook their friends when they come to trick-or-treat. Here are some fun decoration ideas you and your kids can put together to get into the spirit!
Create a spooky scarecrow with Dad's old flannel and jeans. Stuff it with old newspaper or towels and top with your freshly carved Jack-O-Lantern! For a more Rock 'N Roll Jack, create a guitar out of an old cardboard box, and trade in the flannel for your favorite Rolling Stones T-Shirt!
Create some flying ghosts using old pillowcases and shoelaces. Stuff the top with a few socks, tie the sock-stuffed ball with the shoelaces and hang from doorways. For an extra spook, pull out the needle and thread to tie on some button eyes!
Eco Trick 'O Treating Totes
Yellow Label is selling eco-friendly totes for collecting goodies on Halloween night! Old pillowcases and hats also can make perfect accessories and candy collectors for your child's costume!
Candy Treat Alternatives
For a healthier option to dish out this Halloween try some Organic Sweets like those from Yummy Earth. Nothing makes my skin crawl more than candy laced with High Fructose Corn Syrup. So do all the kids in the neighborhood a favor and opt for the alternative options. If fresh treats are an option for a party or well-known neighbors, consider baking your own scary treats with ingredients you choose!
