Labor Day Weekend Festivities

Labor Day weekend is upon us. The kids are back to school, the summer is ending, Halloween decorations are popping up at the stores, and it's time to enjoy the last long weekend of the summer!

LA County Fair

The LA County Fair is kicking off on Labor Day weekend. In Building 4 this year, they will have a "Going Green" exhibit featuring ENERGY STAR's Campaign tour to help teach energy-saving practices.

Other Fair Highlights

On Sunday, September 19th, Univision Television will be having a book drive at the LA County Fair.  Children 12 and younger will receive free Fair admission from 10 AM – 2 PM when they bring a new or slightly used book.

Children and adults alike will benefit from important lessons in protecting, respecting, and most importantly, connecting with America’s Great Outdoors. This 1.5-acre site at the FairKids Wilderness Ridge is an inter-agency, outdoor, conservation education exhibit brought to you by the USDA Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, County of Los Angeles Fire Department, and their partners.

Put on your party shoes and prepare for a fiesta this year in the Flower and Garden Pavilion as they Celebrate Mexico!

Labor Day Family Fun

Parade

Create a Neighborhood Green Parade

Parades are always a hit with the kids, so gather your neighbors and friends to create your own Green Labor Day Parade. Let your children pick a character, theme or instrument to use for their shining parade moment. Dig out old Halloween costumes, turn sheets into capes, and dish pans and spoons into drums. Don't forget to get the family dogs involved and download some patriotic music to the IPod to play during the showcase. Go Green by reusing household items and your kid's imaginations to create your parade!

Pizza On The Grill

Ever made a pizza on the grill? Try it this Labor Day for something new that the kids are sure to love! Here are a few tips for pizza grilling success:
1. Put cheese on the bottom of the layers of toppings!
2. Toppings that need to be cooked should be done so before grilling and added to the pizza when hot. Some nutritious topping combinations are:
  organic basil, mozzarella and tomato
grilled organic bell peppers, spinach and cheese
organic ham and pineapple for a Hawaiian treat
For a full recipe visit this handy site! Remember to substitute organic veggies, flour and other items when possible.

Last Minute Labor Day Camping

Pack up the family for a last minute camping trip not too far from home. Camping is a great way to get the family outdoors, teach the kids about nature and bond over some organic chocolate s'mores! Here are some family-friendly camping sites with easy walking trails and no reservations required!
